Why the scale gets stuck
The 3 Stressors → Inflammation → Metabolic Decline
Different triggers, same body response. Constant stress keeps cortisol high, which drives inflammation, insulin resistance and fat storage, however hard you diet. Fix the stressors and your body can start losing again.
Physical stressor
- Poor sleep or sleep loss
- Too much intense exercise
- Injury, illness or pain
- Carrying excess weight
Chemical stressor
- Processed food, sugar
- Toxins: pesticides, plastics, metals
- Alcohol and some drugs
- Medication side effects (e.g. steroids, some antidepressants): ask your doctor, never stop on your own
- Pollution
Emotional stressor
- Chronic stress or worry
- Anxiety or past trauma
- High-pressure work or life
- Feeling unsafe or overwhelmed
The chain reaction
- 1
Brain senses stress
Your stress system (the HPA axis) switches on.
- 2
Cortisol rises
Your adrenal glands release the main stress hormone.
- 3
Inflammation turns on
Inflammation signals like CRP climb.
- 4
Insulin resistance
Cells stop listening to insulin, so more is stored as fat.
- 5
Mitochondria struggle
Your cells make less energy; you feel tired and burn less.
The result: a metabolic cascade
- More belly fat (visceral fat)
- Fatty liver (NAFLD)
- Less energy, more fatigue
- Higher insulin and blood sugar
- Metabolic syndrome: blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol and waist all up
It only works with the basics
Medicines and supplements can help, but lasting results come from the non-negotiables. A GLP-1 or peptide is a tool, not the plan.
Diet
- ✓ High protein to keep muscle
- ✓ Whole, fiber-rich foods
- ✓ Less added sugar and refined carbs
- ✓ Healthy fats like olive oil and omega-3
Exercise
- ✓ Resistance training 3x a week
- ✓ Zone 2 cardio for your mitochondria
- ✓ Stay consistent; progress slowly
Recovery
- ✓ 7–9 hours of sleep
- ✓ Daily stress relief: breathing, prayer, time outdoors
- ✓ Give it 8–12 weeks
When to expect results
- Weeks 1–2Better energy and appetite control as habits settle.
- Weeks 3–4Better recovery, more consistent workouts, first waist changes.
- Weeks 5–8Better insulin sensitivity and noticeable fat loss.
- Weeks 8–12+Meaningful change: less visceral fat and better labs.
Key takeaway: the 3 stressors can drive a harmful cycle of cortisol, inflammation and insulin resistance. With a disciplined diet, training, sleep and consistency, and your doctor on board, you can break the cycle and rebuild a healthier metabolism.

Peptides shown in the infographic (MOTS-c, SS-31, KPV, BPC-157, TB-500, GHK-Cu) are investigational and not approved for these uses. See the evidence for each in the Peptide Index.
Built around you
Your workout, made for your age and ability
- Your age18 to 80+. Recovery, volume and balance work change as you get older, so your plan does too.
- Your bodyShoulder, knee or back issues? Exercises are swapped for joint-friendly versions automatically.
- Home or gymBands and dumbbells in your living room, or full machines at the gym, or both.
Medicine can open the door. Your effort is what walks you through it.
Getting help isn't cheating
If you're insulin resistant, your body holds on to fat and fights you on every diet, however hard you try. That isn't a lack of willpower; it's biology. For some people a medicine like a GLP-1 is what finally lets the hard work show up on the scale.
- Work with your doctor. Tell them everything you're using or considering, peptides included, so they can keep you safe.
- Medicine isn't the plan, it's the help. Once insulin resistance stops blocking you, your diet and resistance training finally respond to your effort.
- Keep your muscle. Lifting 3 days a week and eating enough protein is what makes the weight you lose fat, not muscle.
Some bodies need medicine firstThyroid, low testosterone, insulin resistance: why diet and exercise alone sometimes can't work. Tap to see the infographic.
When hormones or metabolism aren't working, effort alone often doesn't show results. An underactive thyroid, low testosterone or insulin resistance can each make losing fat and building muscle very hard.
Treating the real problem, when your doctor confirms it with labs, can restart the system so your diet and training finally work. Medicine is a reset tool, not a cheat code.
Every one of these needs proper testing and a prescription from your doctor. Don't start, stop or change hormone or metabolic medicines on your own.
